As I turned over the newspaper leaves today I was sad to read that a section of the students of the Madras University were protesting against the visit of the Gujarat Chief Minister Mr.Narendra Modi who is to deliver an address at the meeting scheduled in their Institution. They are not just against his visit but were miffed that the security has been beefed up and students and professors are scanned for passes to enter their premises.
The reasons for being appalled by his visit are equally as dubious as their claim that they cannot be disturbed by security personnel for the sake of a political personality. What we people do not understand is no public figure be it a politician or a celebrity wants darkly clad cats walking along with them wherever they go scanning the premises be it a auditorium or a rest room. We fail to understand that they are not just the creamy layer bequeathed with luxury but also parrots inside security cages. Every Minister's value is the tax payer's hard earned money our Government spends on the elections combined with fact that they do not always have a rosy path every day they do have work to do, factors to take account of, weigh the cross and pons and understand the consequences of their decisions before they scribble their signs on any report. Having said this, those of these politicians who just cheat or fool or laze around do not get to stay on the top forever on the basis of the wealth factor alone. So if a person can lead a state successfully, keeping the people in the state satisfied , see to it that all people get the share of the success by ignoring personal wealth gain, get elected repeatedly in spite of the prejudices of so many of our journalists and newspaper, I think our students should refrain from objecting to his presence. They can instead listen to what he has to say and having received a rare meeting with an important political figure talk to him and question him about what he has in mind for the future of India and his ideologies for having stepped into the national arena today. We are not the only people who are going to vote for or route him from the political path. That is a privilege shared by all Indians equally. So listen and interrogate before you raise the black flag against the politicians of our nation. He is indeed a rare sight for staying uncorrupted in politics or to put it more strongly , to stay uncorrupted in the limelight in India is no mean feat.
